"I’ve been ordering from Aunty Mimi’s for years, probably longer than I should have. My biggest issue is that several dishes are advertised as traditional African foods but, in my experience, don’t resemble what those dishes are supposed to be.
The “seafood pepper soup” was essentially pepper soup with one slice of fish for $18, and the assorted meat pepper soup left me unsure what meats I was actually eating.
The biggest disappointment was the “shawarma.” What I received was Spam and lettuce wrapped in a flour tortilla for $10. This was a miserable excuse for shawarma and nothing like the shawarma I know.
If you’re looking for authentic shawarma, I’d recommend looking elsewhere—especially toward Georgetown or Austin."
