My grandfather was a non-smoker, non-drinker, and a hockey coach in good health for the majority of my life. His one vice - was his ice cream. He had one for a snack every day. Unfortunately, he was hospitalized this week and my family was called in to say goodbye. He could hardly swallow (he was experiencing renal failure among other issues) so we all agreed to give him one last ice cream. The ice cream we tried to bring with us melted, and the hospital advised they do not sell ice cream this time of year. I don't drive, so besides ordering, I was at a loss. I placed an order via Door Dash for express delivery, stating that I wanted to ensure the pack of Dilly Bars was not melted when it arrived at HSN. I can't tell you how many times I specify something like this and a company just ignores it. The bars were packaged carefully in a cake container full of ice which was then surrounded with more ice. The staff, who I can only assume were at a loss for words having seen my note, drew a little heart on the box. This may not sound like something most people would make a deal of, but sometimes it's little things like this that make a world of difference to people. I wish you could have seen the look on my gramps face when I told him he could have a dilly bar for dinner. My grandpa died on Thursday around 6:40am surrounded by family. Thank you for letting us all smile with him one last time."
