What I mostly appreciate about this spot is the added Jamaican dishes I rarely see on other menus here in LA. I got the Ground Food (provisions) to go with the fish (boiled green banana, yuca, and dumplings) which I haven't had on the West Coast (I'm from NYC). It's a nice break from rice n peas or white rice options especially with dishes like salt fish and ackee which is a staple. They also have stew peas with pig tails, breadfruit, jerk pork, and the bean soup so I definitely plan to order those next time. I miss those foods/flavors for sure. "

But my initial issue with the Escoveitched Fish (this is my 2nd time ordering it), that for the price, the fish size is small compared to other whole body fish meals I get from other spots , still stands. This meal felt more like $25 not $36. My other Jamaican spot that had a really good-sized snapper dinners for $34 (and their fish was really good) stopped serving fish altogether (maybe due to cost or supply chain issues?), but I had a hankering for escoveitch (and felt too lazy to make my own) so I decided to try HM's again. The peas and rice was good as always (and there was a lot of it), and the fish was cooked well but just ok flavor wise tho the pickle was tasty and worked when eaten together of course. But overall, in comparison, not a completely satisfying meal for me personally for the price once you factor in delivery and tip ($52). "I had the fried fish dinner (4) FRIED FISH with collard greens and candied yams, plus the PEACH COBBLER. The food arrived nice and hot, which is a plus and the portions were healthy. The fish was cooked well and well-seasoned, although tbh the seasoning profile wasn’t quite my cup of tea, but overall it was good and I did like it. The candied yams were delicious. The collard greens were fresh (not canned or frozen), but the flavor for me was lacking. When I added the hot sauce, it was better. The meal also came with 2 cornbread muffins which were nice. As for the peach cobbler, I’m sorry, but that was a miss. First, it was inside an 8oz plastic deli container—certainly not the portion of an $8+ desert IMO. Next, the glaze flavor was unbalanced in that I mostly tasted nutmeg but not much of anything else. I don’t know if they relied on the cling peaches syrup for support, but it just didn’t work. Lastly, and perhaps the worst offense for me, is because it was in a deli container, the crust pieces were all wet and soggy. Having said all that, I am willing to try their other dishes. (BTW DoorDash, I had to type this on my laptop, email it to myself, and cut/paste it into your tiny iPhone app window on iPhone which still only shows a single line when typing reviews.
