What screams “American brasserie” more than a little gem Caesar, shrimp cocktail, and filet mignon? It’s not a trick question — it’s The Smith in a nutshell. The restaurant has gained a huge fan base (and multiple locations) since opening in 2007, and has continued to check all the boxes of comforting, brasserie fare. The gooey mac and cheese is a worthy indulgence, as are the Sriracha-laced bites of spicy salmon tartare. It’s hard to beat their classic BLT, which is really anything but classic; it comes with an egg on an everything croissant. For something more substantial, charred steaks and creamy truffled gnocchi hit all the spots. No brasserie meal is complete without dessert. Here, the sticky toffee pudding is excellent, and if we didn’t let you know about the s’mores in a jar, we wouldn’t be doing our civic duty.
