"Took amazing care of us and the food was absolutely wonderful. We got a wide variety of dishes so far and liked everything we ordered. My wife loved the chicken tikka masala, which is usually too spicy for her but their mild was just right. The lamb melted and barely needed chewing. Fantastic place with amazing Indian food. "
"I was a little hesitant ordering from a restaurant with no reviews, but boy did it pay off! The butter chicken, chicken saag, and veggie pakora were all packed with flavor and absolutely delightful. In fact, the pakora were so good I ended up eating all of them before I even unpacked the rest of my food. I'm so glad there's such a great Indian restaurant in the neighborhood and can't wait to try something new next time! "

"Venn Pongal's quantity has been increased since my previous review. It is okay in quantity now for the price. The food is very good and overall a very good Indian restaurant in the city!"
"The Kothu Parotta and the Masala Dosa were absolutely delicious- they're always our go to orders when are at Amma's/get takeout from them . Flavorful and filling. The Masala Dosa is definitely better served at the restaurant because the filling is kept separate from the dosa and after delivery time, the dosa is not as warm. Still, flavors are great. The Rasamalai was tasty but portions were small (only 3 pieces) and overpriced, texture of the cheese was denser than I've had at other places but still great. The Tamarind Fish curry (Meen Kulambu) was sweet, nice to try but not necessarily something I would order again. Overall I love Amma's- my favorite Indian spot in Philly. "

"The Lamb Saguti was phenomenal and the Chicken Curry w/ Rice was good a bit mild and could've been spicier so I'll try the spicy next time. Really good portion of rice given and food was packaged well for transport. Would definitely order again."
"Samosa is delicious, I like how the potatoes lose coherence in the mixture.
Why is the Tikka Masala watery, sweet and unflavored? I'm consuming sweet red water with chicken in it.

"Absolutely loved the Beef Bhuna Rasmalai Butter Naan everything hit the spot! and this coming from a desi food habitual critic. Cant believe the prices too, the naan was huge and properly weighty enough for one. Rasmalai is perfect and a steal at 4 bucks, you get 5 plus cheeses a whole meal by itself. Beef was absolutely delicious just like how I remember from back home absolutely devoured it. Something that needs improvement is packaging, a plastic bag is not proper. Loved the meal tho"

"Chicken Tikka Masala was VERY good. Came with rice which was also pretty good. However, the portion size was below average for the price and I believe this dish should have come with Garli Naan Blissc which shouldn't have to be purchased separately. For the price, I won't be returning. Nonetheless, the food was excellent."
"I ordered Barfi. and a completely different /wrong dessert came. There was a buy one get one free Garlic Naan Bliss, so I ordered this special, but only one naan was provided and it was burnt. "Ordered a C5 Chicken Tikka Masla and Tandoori Rotti i. The chicken was delicious, but unfortunately, it was excessively oily, making the overall dish too greasy compared to other Indian restaurants. Additionally, the Tandoori Roti seemed to be made with more white flour than wheat flour, which I didn't enjoy, and it too was overly oily.
In another separate order, we tried the Navratan Korma, which was also excessively greasy. I wish they would use less oil in their cooking; I prioritize both taste and health when dining out. It's a good restaurant to eat in if you just care about the taste."

"This was some of the best Lamb Vindaloo-(Spicy) I've ever had. My family loved their dishes too. Great portions, nice spice level, and they even labeled each dish. The mango Flavored Lassi were also AMAZING. Thick and super flavorful. Definitely ordering from here again. "
"I ordered Chicken Dum Biriyani, chicken tikka masala, saag our paneer, naan, and it costed me $105, was this worth it, absolutely NOT. Quantity is so less and bland, I would highly recommend look elsewhere. This cuisine has no idea what is meant by Biriyani. He has made with spice powders rather than making with masala. Chicken was chewy in tikka masala. Everything went wrong for party order."

"Mozzarella Sticks (6)
Very good!! The crust was flaky but super delicious
Chicken Over Rice
Amazing!!!!"
"Overall it's a pretty good place to order from. Veggie burger is quite decent; it uses a fried veggie patty. But the veggie burger says it comes with a soda (ordered from lunch menu), but it actually doesn't. I've never received a drink with the burgers I've ordered. I usually get the desi pizza, though to be honest I can't tell a difference between their desi pizza and any other veggie pizza out there...there's no distinct difference in taste. The chaats are also quite good, but could use some more chutneys in my opinion. "

"As always the Kashmiri Naan was excellent. They even put a sizeable amount of raisins in it. I'm happy, because I luv raisins.
The Vegetable Samosa were excellent also.
I did not like The Veggie Pakora. I'm sure it was air fried because It was not crispy-It was kinda soft. A mouthful of mush"
"I order from (or dine at) Saffron in Bala Cynwyd sometimes. This is a different Saffron completely, and not as good. Samosas are very salty outside and mushy inside. All of the sauces are quite runny. The flavors aren't bad, so maybe it's better when it's not so late at night?"

"huge portions, delicious food, came fast and hot! my friend can't have dairy and the restaurant was very accommodating and even handwrote little notes with details about what items had dairy or not. we did a group order and our items were labelled. I love Curry Leaf!"
"both the 44. Lamb or Goat Korma and the 67. Saag Paneer were super tasty, and the 87. Peshwari Naan was generously flavored and stuffed. I wish the portion sizes were bigger for the price, but that's probably the cost of survival in this economy"

"We got the Curried Chicken with Rice w. Onion and Sizzling Beef with Black Pepper. Both were very good and very filling. They tasted incredible and were still hot as hell. I only wish the Curried Chicken with Rice w. Onion was more spicy."
"I’ve been coming to Penang for years and used to be a frequent customer for both dine-in and takeout. It was always one of my favorite local restaurants, which makes it especially disappointing to say that my last two experiences (including today’s) have convinced me that the quality of both the food and service has declined significantly. Whether it’s due to new ownership, poor management, or a lack of staff training, something has clearly changed.
I placed a takeout order for 9 items and was quoted an estimated pickup time of 1 hour. That’s an unusually long wait, especially on a Tuesday at 4pm when the restaurant was nearly empty. When I arrived, there were only three occupied tables, making the wait even harder to understand.
The pickup experience was equally disappointing. A server pointed me toward the front counter, but no one was there. I stood waiting for nearly 5 minutes before someone finally came over, even though my food had already been packed and was sitting behind the counter.
The packaging showed a complete lack of care. While the individual containers were fine, the entire order was crammed into a single brown paper bag filled to the top, with containers sticking up near the handles. There was no way the bag could be carried safely without risking it tearing. I politely asked if they could split the order into two bags. Instead of helping, the employee gave me a dirty look, handed me an empty second bag after I had already paid, and told me to repack it myself. That should never be the customer’s responsibility. It should have been packaged properly from the start.
Unfortunately, the food has declined as well. The roti canai, which used to be one of my favorites, was a huge disappointment. The roti itself was rubbery, and the curry dipping sauce was so watered down that it lacked the rich flavor it was once known for. Other dishes also seemed noticeably smaller while prices have continued to increase. I understand inflation affects restaurants, but this felt more like cutting corners than simply adjusting prices.
What disappoints me most is that Penang used to stand out for both its food and hospitality. Now the customer service feels indifferent, the attention to detail is gone, and the food no longer justifies the prices.
I rarely leave negative reviews, but after two consistently poor experiences, I can no longer recommend this restaurant. It’s unfortunate to see a place that was once so reliable decline to this extent."

"That was the BEST Gobi Manchurian and Plain Naan I have had in years. The Chicken Tikka Masala had delicious but the chicken portion was rather small for the price. "
"I got the butter chicken and cheese naan. Butter chicken was pretty good. It was creamy, rich, tangy, and had a good amount of chicken to suffice for a meal. The cheese naan however, was flimsy and had no cheese in it at all. Overall, I think this place is a little overpriced but I would still try to order again "
