Mainly because since moving to the West coast 46 years ago I've had a terribly bad time trying to find a pizza sauce, spaghetti sauce, or dipping sauce that could measure up to the pizza and other sauces that I had growing up in Chicago. Well, Melo's is by far the closest I've come. And the pizza crusts are so crispy and chewy. Their pastas are absolutely delicious 😋. It's my favorite pizza joint that I've ever had out West. The bento boxes come with rice, salad, miso, and 2 entrees and were $18 each. For the 1st bento box, I got chicken teriyaki and mixed tempura. The tempura looked fine but tasted really burnt. It tastes like they don't really change the oil or they're using burnt oil. The chicken tasted average, nothing special. The tempura sauce looked very oily before I even dipped anything into it. The 2nd bento, my wife got chicken katsu and salmon teriyaki. The salmon was well done and there were only 8 flimsy katsu pieces. It's almost like they flattened some chicken as much as possible, slapped some batter on it, and fried it. It was paper thin. Also the katsu sauce also was more like a jelly sauce in terms of consistency. The miso also tasted more like chicken broth and was very dark in color, even after stirring all the contents up. The chef here is really talented at their craft: The lemon chicken has crispy exterior and a tender interior, the green beans were crunchy and not over-fried or oily, the salt & pepper prawns were made with fresh, succulent jumbo prawns. "Used to think tiramisu was my fave dessert, but the ricotta lemon cake has knocked it out of first place, as has the spumoni. The ricotta /cheese cake is firm, not soft like a flour cake. The spumoni has noticeable vanilla flavor plus more. The Garden Pizza was great; first time having it & wasn't sure I'd like it. The Kalamatas alone add great salty zingy flavor. Doubt Tomatina has anything that's not good."

"the Chicken Soup (Caldo de Pollo) is so good!!! quality ingredients and great textures and flavor. authentic as well! we used to drive to a place in Alameda for chicken soup because it makes that much of a difference but now that we have El Nido we're in heaven! husband loves the Nachos Grandes and they've been delivered great each time even though we live like 15-20min from the restaurant. family also loves the Cali Burrito and orders it with different meats that have all been yummy. of course the carnitas is excellent! wouldn't hesitate to order other items from the menu as well. after a couple orders so far, this restaurant stands out in quality and consistency (which can be hard to find). highly recommend and look forward to trying more dishes!"
