"Finally!!! Some amazing Mexican food in Houston!!! After trying half a dozen Mexican spots and they all let us down or were very inconsistent or just garbage we finally found good Mexican food. This is THE spot for Mexican food in southern Houston. Haven't tried their sister store Jimmy changas yet but Gringos is absolutely phenomenal. We tried so many dishes and not a single one was bad. Every single thing was absolutely incredible from the seafood to the tacos to the burritos and even the salsa, it was all spectacular. We will no longer waste our time or money on any other Mexican place, Gringos is our go to spot from now on. We might try Jimmy Changas just to see if it's just as good, but Gringos is the standard from now on. " Beti's Special was like eating at grandmas house. Cooked to perfection and was delicious. The flauta was amazing and the taco al carbon the fajita meat was tender not fatty put in homemade flour tortilla. Wow ! Will definitely order again. "

"The Chilaquiles were poorly packaged. Liquid refried beans were slotted all over the Chilaquiles, making them terribly soggy. Then semi-cooked, bland, non-seasoned potato chunks were heaped on the mound of soggy tortilla strips and runny beans. This was really disappointing, because usually Moreno's is great at food prep, packaging and taste. Today, not so much. The Chilaquiles definitely were NOT worth their cost today / not even close. Even if the meal had been packaged carefully and the co-mingling of slop happened in transit, it doesn't account for the lack of seasoning. (And, even if that's what happened - that the foods commingled in transit and that led to everything being a soggy mess, the restaurant should package the items more carefully up front so that this can't happen. For example, put the beans in a separate container that is sealed - not in a styrofoam flip top / flip lid container where they can (and do) ooze out inside the plastic bag. I know their food isn't usually this bad. I think we ordered Chilaquiles a different time in the past month and, if memory is correct, they were crispy and good."

The chicken was not that flavorful and even dry in some parts. Other places get flavor deep in the meat and this was just barely on the surface. The taquitos were terrible, dry flavorless meat. The plantains were just bleh and we love good plantains but not these. Salad was a joke just boring iceberg covered in giant tomato slices and some avocado with a comically small drizzle of poor dressing just across the top of the tomatoes not nearly enough for the whole salad. The watery beans are not good. The rice was just okay. We even got the pasta from the reviews and it was so bad. Just tastes like you are eating chipotle mayo on pasta or something. It looks green in the picture but the pasta is actually red.
