However, the same couldn't be said for the proteins and sauces, which were marred by a mushy and unappealing texture. The orange flavored chicken, which looked promising with its whole chilis and orange peel, was surprisingly bland and not spicy at all. The shaved chicken and beef dishes were a miss, with starch-based sauces that created a slimy texture that didn't pair well with the proteins. The lack of flavor was a major issue, making even the hot & sour soup, which was the only decent dish, feel underwhelming compared to similar soups we've had elsewhere. "Sorry I don't have pictures to share, we inhaled the food as soon as we got it! This is the first time we have ever had Charley's Cheesesteaks, and if I were to be completely honest, there is really only one word that comes to mind as an appropriate description for the food we ate, and that is: Phenomenal! I was a bit Leary at first because I figured the steak would be greasy ~ NOT AT ALL! The steak was cooked perfectly; the bacon was crispy, but not crumbly; they were just the perfect Cheesesteaks! Almost like they were cooked in downtown Philly! The only thing I will say is: the fries were not crispy (personally, I LOVE the way the fries were cooked, but...) some people may prefer their fries to be done a bit more, to give them a crispier exterior.
