My favorites were the Tofu Khua Khao (vegan fried rice) and the Mango Salad. The former was very classic and satisfying, and the latter was very fresh with lots of bright and Very well-balanced flavors. The Crab Cake tasted great, but was much smaller than expected; the only item I had with a less than impressive portion size. The Mieng Kana Tofu tasted great, though did fell apart a bit during packing or delivery. The Lemongrass Fizz is a bit less "fizzy" than the name may imply, that said it tastes fantastic. It also works perfectly as a pallet cleanser, especially with spice; so if you are someone who struggles a bit with spice this would be a great companion to the spicier dishes. I also ordered the Chocolate Mousse Cake, haven't tried it yet but it was packaged well to hold form during travel, and it looks incredible.
Sauces were all in separate containers rather than mixed in, so everything arrived the right consistency, and tasted amazing. In my experience, the Portion sizes are decently large compared to most DC restaurants; an entree + appetizer would serve as a solid 2 meals.
First time ordering from here and very happy with the choice. Will definitely be ordering from here again!"

I do appreciate properly sized portions, but this one was a bit TOO small— slightly under what you’d expect for a dish like this, especially at that price point. It’s on the pricier side for a LESS than tapas-style portion, despite how incredible it tasted. I’d order this regularly if the portion were just a bit larger.
However, the steamed rice portion was fair, but the price felt insultingly excessive— over $5 for a single serving (with maybe a bite or 2 leftover) would be the ONLY thing that might make me hesitate..
That said, the flavor and presentation were a 10/10, even as a takeout order, it held up really well. Sidenote; I’ve also had the garlic noodles before, and those are just as amazing. You honestly can’t find that flavor anywhere else!"

"Absolutely delicious! We like other Peter Chang-owned restaurants and this one is great, too! The Homestyle Stir-Fried Pork Belly was amazing - tender, beautifully spiced and a generous portion. The Salt and Pepper Shrimp were addictive - well seasoned (but not spicy at all) and cooked perfectly. They'd make a great appetizer shared among several people. They were so delicious that my 11 year old stole some even though she's usually quite picky. She also really enjoyed her Combo Lo Mein. The Sweet and Sour Chicken Slices were also great. I will continue to order from here when I need my Asian food fix and it's a plus that it's not far from my job. "Disappointed: bland & lacking flavor balance
Drunken Noodles had little flavor. Vegetables were mostly uncooked and very difficult to chew, which I guess is a creative choice. As well, cuts of mushrooms that were impossible to chew, quite disappointing.
I ordered spring rolls from the vegetarian menu selection and I got pork and shrimp rolls :/ So those were inedible.
The Thai iced tea was 1) small for 7.75, not good value for TEA! 2) even tasted watered down, barely any cream at the bottom to mix in with the tea. Super disappointing.
The mango sticky rice was ok. Rice was mostly flavorless. The sauce was super sweet, no salty balance. The mango was also not very good. Sweet but not the sour balance. It was not a good texture either. Usually a restaurant will not serve mango sticky rice if the mangos are not juicy and ripe. This one was not ideal.
All in all I would neither order from Doi Moi, nor visit them in person, again."

"I rarely leave reviews, but today I felt truly compelled to share an exceptional experience. I had the pleasure of speaking with Chanel (I hope I’m spelling her name correctly), and her kindness left a lasting impression on my family and me.
I called Malai to ask whether their ice cream was prepackaged, as my daughter is currently in the hospital and can only have prepackaged items due to her doctor-prescribed limited diet. Chanel was incredibly patient and understanding. She carefully explained which ice creams were prepackaged and let me know what was currently in stock. She even stayed on the phone with me while I placed my order so she could personally accept it, ensure the correct prepackaged ice cream was selected, and pack it properly for my daughter.
Chanel went above and beyond in every possible way. She kindly offered to add an extra pint at her own expense. I politely declined, and when she spoke directly with my daughter, my daughter also said no. Chanel then mentioned that they had popsicles and asked if my daughter would like one instead. My daughter happily said yes, and Chanel added it to the order, telling her it was a gift from her and wishing her a speedy recovery.
Even then, her generosity didn’t end there. When the delivery arrived, Chanel had quietly added another pint, purchased out of her own pocket. I have never experienced such genuine compassion and care from anyone in a business setting. She did not have to do any of this, yet she chose to do so purely out of kindness for my child.
Malai Restaurant is incredibly fortunate to have someone like Chanel on their team. She is truly an extraordinary person. "Honestly the best restaraunt in the DMV area. Genuinely consistent food every time, with generous portion sizes. The food is always fresh and arrives warm, with the Kung Pao and General Tso's Chicken/Tofu being standout dishes. Also the rice is excellent. "High quality food and chicken iadore this place!! I selected $3 of extra vegetables because the original dish only contains TWO halved broccoli pieces. "Sizzling Steak Delight was hot and fresh very mild flavors. The Lemongrass Soup (Tom Yum Soup) was piping hot which was exactly what I needed. I would have liked it to have been more spicy and to include more pieces of shrimp. I ordered the hot pot for 4 and received 2 quart containers they included 3 pieces of shrimp in each container. They don't give you the option to select the level of spice like other restauraunts. "
