You’ve been to a steakhouse, yes? Well, imagine all the quality, abundance, and bravado of a steakhouse, but with fish standing in for beef. That’s Ocean Prime, a Midtown jewel for pristine seafood. Naturally, there’s a lovely jumbo lump crab cake app. This one is all crab, no filler, garnished with pickled fennel and served with a zippy horseradish mustard aioli. The ahi tuna tartare is another fine starter, fashioned from diced tuna and avocado, drizzled with a ginger ponzu and sprinkled with sesame seeds. And sushi fans will love the Prime roll, which goes the surf-and-turf route with tempura shrimp, cream cheese, and scallions wrapped in ruby red beef carpaccio. Of course, you’ll want to order straight-up seafood like the blackened snapper, served with corn spoon bread and a brilliant jalapeño tartar sauce that you’ll want to slather on everything. The teriyaki salmon is burnished and pink, served with shiitake sticky rice and glossed with a soy butter sauce. If you’re craving steak, their cuts include the New York strip, filet mignon, rib eye, and bone-in filet. Sides appropriately channel the excess of a steakhouse — lobster mac & cheese (a meal in itself), creamy chophouse corn, bacon creamed spinach, and smoked gouda tater tots. Yes, please.
