Thai seafood is the hook at Fish Cheeks, a fantastic foray into a world of vibrant regional dishes. Curries are a good place to start here, especially the Southern-style curry with crab meat, house-made curry paste, and betel leaves served with jasmine rice (careful, it’s pretty spicy). Grilled branzino is simple and lovely, served ”Ping Gnob style”— a curried filet wrapped in banana leaf with rice. For the prawns karee, succulent prawns are stir-fried with curry powder, soft scrambled egg, scallion, onion, micro celery, and roasted chili jam. The menu is not exclusively seafood though. Chicken Isan is terrific — a half chicken marinated with Thai herbs, served with jaew sauce and sweet chili sauce. Their signature pork cheeks are marinated in fish sauce and served with jaew sauce and fried garlic. Sides range from jasmine rice to pakboong — wok-fried morning glory, garlic, Thai bird's eye chili, and soybeans. The shrimp chips with chili paste are insanely good, so treat yourself to two orders so you don’t have to share.
