This North County spot is the real deal. Not "inspired by soul food." Not "California soul food." Real, authentic, made-from-scratch soul food that tastes like somebody's grandmother is back there running the kitchen with a cast-iron skillet and zero tolerance for shortcuts.
The catfish is the best I've ever had. Period. Perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside, flaky and tender on the inside. The fried chicken is absolute perfection, golden, crunchy, juicy, and everything fried chicken is supposed to be.
And every single side deserves its own standing ovation. The collard greens, black-eyed peas, and red beans and rice are all incredible. These aren't filler sides, they're dishes you could make an entire meal out of.
Then there are the fried green tomatoes. Bar none, the best I've ever had. Anywhere.
Every bite of this meal was so good that somewhere between the catfish and the collards, a word flew out of my mouth that would have made my grandmother raise an eyebrow.
The portions are generous, the flavors are authentic, and the entire experience reminded me what soul food is supposed to taste like.
If you've been searching for genuine soul food in San Diego County, your search is over.

The Gourmet Steak pieces we very juicy and tender pieces of Steak with sliced avocados, diced onions, cilantro, and Pio Pico spicy sauce wrapped in warm corn tortillas. These Gourmet Steak Tacos were so delicious I couldn't stop eating both of them until they were gone quickly. I would definitely order these Gourmet Steak Tacos again they were that delicious! "EXCELLENT French Onion Soup from Outback once again - the one thing I'm guaranteed to be able to eat while fighting multiple gut-related health issues, a total lifesaver for me. ALWAYS a deep, rich beautiful broth you wanna bathe in with onions so soft you could gum them without teeth but yet they're still super flavorful. I make this from scratch but Outback is the only place I've found who does it better than I, and I've never gotten sick from theirs. Ever. Not once.

Not juicy like normal satay is and certainly not even 1/2 of a satay chicken order would normally include. Again, for the price, ($23) there was not enough protein. Maybe add some edamame if going to chintz on the chicken. The cheesecake was very good, though so that was nice :)"
