"My wife is Trini and so my in-laws are first generation Trinidadian immigrants who make some of the best Trini dishes I've ever had. So you can get imagine my excitement to learn that a restaurant serving authentic Trini food had returned to the area. My wife used to eat here when it was the original Teddy's and was also excited to have some good old home food. But I was extremely disappointed when I opened the container to see very small portions of oxtails and rice. The meat was tough and the sauce was very oily. Next I tried the doubles. The Chana had a very tasty sauce however they were a bit undercooked and hard. Not at all tender or creamy as I had expected. The curry chicken was lost in the sauce . Finally I got to the main event, the shark & 2. Fried Bake and Shark. It was dry and resembled minced shark not the filet that I was hoping to find. And lastly the bake itself was too hard and chewy. Overall I have to give it a 3 out of 5 forks, a hard pass but I would give Teddy's a second chance. Maybe it was just a one off and not typical of their quality. But the prices were very expensive considering the portion sizes. The meat dishes need more meat to be a decent value. Ultimately good flavors but mediocre presentation and preparation.

"The Fish Kolivada was a flavorful, spiced but not hot, white fish. you can taste the coriander (so good). There were two green sauces. No idea what they were, but they were complimentary. one was thin and sweet and one was like applesauce but taste like apple and tamarind. whatever it was, it was good. "Possibly the best tasting food I've ever had- not "Indian" food, food.
That said the portion size relative to the cost is appallingly small. I got a Kathi roll ($14) and cauliflower pakoras ($12) for a total of $26 before taxes and fees. I've had amazing kathi rolls in NYC and Philly for $6-$7, so I just assumed these would be bigger since they're twice the price and those cities are comparable to the DC food scene. The one I had from Bindaas turned out to be even smaller.
I personally don't have a problem paying more for food in a restaurant when there's service being provided and you have the ability to easily order more. But I'm still hungry after spending $26 on a takeout order when I usually don't even spend half as much. "
