Chickpea Fritter Sandwich
Our very first sandwich—established in 2008—has become a Boston classic, often landing on lists alongside lobster rolls and clam chowder. It’s a reflection of everything we care about: simple ingredients, bold flavors, and food made with love. We start with our own pita bread, baked fresh at our Commissary kitchen. Inside, you’ll find silky hummus made from organic chickpeas grown in Connecticut, crispy falafel balls that are soft on the inside and packed with toasted spices and fresh herbs, a cucumber-tomato salad we chop fresh each morning, bright pickled veggies for a tangy crunch, and a drizzle of tahini sauce to tie it all together. It’s the sandwich that started it all—and still one of our favorites.
$13.54
Chickpea Fritter Platter
Our original Chickpea Fritter Sandwich—est. 2008—is a Boston classic. Crispy-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside falafel made with toasted spices and fresh herbs, silky organic hummus, cucumber-tomato salad, bright pickled veggies, and a drizzle of tahini, all served with two fresh side salads (chickpea–red pepper–eggplant–farro with lemon and dill), plus warm pita bread. A cult favorite that helped put us on the map.

Mediterranean Bowl
Meet the Mediterranean Bowl - (Version 2 thanks to feedback from all of you!) a rainbow ?? of spreads, salads, falafel, and sauces, with a variety of vegetables and tons of protein in every order. We've been inspired by Middle Eastern recipes using Western Mass ingredients. We start with a layer of our silky hummus so you get a little bit in every bite. Then we add two beautiful salads: a hearty Farro Lemon Dill and a Chickpea Eggplant Pepper salad made with organic chickpeas from Connecticut. For some light brightness we add a Cucumber Tomato Salad (use the lemon wedge to squeeze a little fresh juice on top) and bright magenta Pickled Cabbage. Of course we can't skip our Falafel balls, fried to order, crispy/craggy on the outside, and bright green inside from fresh cilantro and parsley we fold into the batter. Then drizzle everything with a beautiful herby green tahini.

"Best Latte I've had in a very long time! FriendIy staff too. Wish I'd have found this hidden gem soooner. I will be back. "
"Very dissapointed.
Description of the Focaccia:
"Focaccia is an Italian bread typically topped with olive oil, sea salt, and herbs such as rosemary and oregano."
You assume it will come with these seasonings otherwise it's just a piece of bread for $7.99. Apparently not. I added prosciutto and mozzarella. When I got the order it was just a sad piece of mangled bread with prosciutto and mozzarella.
So be warned. Apparently if you order the Focaccia and don't add anything to it you actually will just get an $8 piece of plain bread. Not a large piece of bread either..
The Iced Nutella Latte was good but to be fair Nutella by itself is good.
Photo is exactly as it came."

"Best authentic Turkish we've had in Boston. The Doner Kebab (Entree) was properly shaved and very tender - melt in your mouth tender. Adana Kebab (Entree) was perfectly spiced and cooked. The Mixed Grill had something for everyone. The Ali Nazik is not often found outside of Turkey - and was a taste of hime for my husband. The very best bite all night was the Kazandibi - a caramelized milk pudding. I will dream about that this the next time. The Sekerpare needed more syrup - some bites were a little dry."

"South End Pita might literally be my favorite restaurant, including 'regular' sit-down restaurants. Take my review with a grain of salt, if you wish. I get it. Also, I don't review a lot of places. That said, I do do a LOT of takeout and am a Dashpass member for the value of it! I love this place, especially their plates. Don't be shy of the beef, the chicken (shawarma or kebab), or the lamb. Tremendous food and you certainly get big ole "American" portions. Eat the hummus, the baba ganoush (sp?), and treat yourself to baklava."

"The mussel baklava is amazing! The pizza contains chicken sausage, not pork, as I confirmed with the bakery before placing the order. The German Cake (Strawberry) – Alman Kek – wasn’t really a cake, unless I received something different from what I was supposed to. It was more like a large cream puff or bread filled with custard and strawberry, but it was still delicious.
Overall, we’ve enjoyed most of the items we’ve tried so far, but this is definitely the place for baklava!"

Chef Mehmet made planning the birthday party very easy. He was incredibly professional, responsive, and accommodating, ensuring every detail was thoughtfully handled. In the weeks leading up to the event, Café Mangal made sure every detail was covered. They were flexible in finalizing the guest count, accommodating dietary restrictions, and even answering last-minute questions about minor details. Their dedication to customer service is truly exceptional and it made for a truly special birthday.

"As a Turkish person, I can say this is the best Turkish restaurant in Boston. Adana kebab was absolutely delicious, and I was so happy to finally find a place that serves liver shish kebab. It had been such a long time! The portions are incredibly generous; I could only finish about half of my meal. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. Out of all the Turkish restaurants I’ve tried in the area, this is by far the closest to the authentic taste of Turkey."
"I like the food but it is far from authentic middle eastern food and I find it pricey. I bought a wrap; the meat and veggies were wrapped in a burrito like wrap, not a pita. Also their garlic spread is not real garlic, it is like garlic flavored salad dressing. I paid $80 for a wrap, two soups and baklava which was on special. The wrap had a diameter of 1.5 cigars and cost $17."

"El Greco is really a great restaurant. The Pork Plate, the chicken, Plate, and the chicken pita, are all tasty and very good deals. A really good value for the money. The avegno soup was just ok but again so inexpensive tht i did not mind at all. This place is so much less expensive than restaurants with similar food, that there is no reason to order from any other Greek fast food place unless you want very fancy and expensive. "I try to never give bad reviews for restaurants, but this one was such a letdown: expensive, the spicy potatoes were so oily that I refused to eat to avoid getting my stomach upset. The beef and CHICKEN KEBAB PLATE were bland, almost no salt.
The Mango Lassi Yogurt was a TOTAL DECEPTION!! It's depicted in the menu like it's made from scratch but it's actually industrialized, ultra processed and tastes artificial!!

"The food tasted so good but the amount of meat is very little!! I even requested extra meat for one of the meal and paid for that, but both of the meals came exactly the same. I've tried other Turkish restaurant in Brookline, they were very generous.

"I ordered a Greek salad with grilled chicken and literally got four tiny pieces of chicken two pieces that are all grizzled and dried out. $29 for lettuce with two tomatoes and a sprinkle of feta. This place has gone downhill fast second time ordering and not satisfied."
"First off I should mention that a lot of my problems may be related to the fact that I ordered late in their serving day. On the other hand the mark of a quality restaurant is consistent top quality from the time you first open your doors each day until you shut the doors each night. Sadly they miss the mark here.
There are suggestions in their flavorings and seasonings that suggest at 5 you might have a top-notch meal here ( especially if you dine in. I'm not sure this food travels particularly well ).
I ordered the half chicken. A restaurant that specializes in roast chicken ought to have mastered the knack to cooking the dark meat through without drying out the breast meat. Not so here. The skin was flavorful and crispy but the white meat was painfully dry. Wish I would say that of the sautéed green beans. Possibly they started out the day fresh but the beans were cooked to steam table mush, and they tasted like they had been just been tipped out of a car. The potatoes were brightly seasoned, but only a few of the pieces held together -- most of them were disintegrating into mush. The orange cake was delicately flavored, but for the price you'd think you'd get enough for two people to share. Not so. A brownie would be ashamed to be cut as small as this piece of orange cake was.
There's enough hints in the seasonings to suggest this place might be worth a try. But if you'd like to give it a try I suggest going for lunch. I would certainly not recommended chancing it after 6 pm!"

"Really well flavored, fresh, authentic dishes - awesome grilled meats! Good portion for the price. Lamb losh kebab and chicken sharwarma both AMAZING - it's hard to find 'lamb only' kebabs of great quality.....this place is a gem. Packaged with care for take out (door dash). Falafel was well flavored too, though I prefer the version where there's baking soda added to make it fluffier. Definitely will be ordering more from Jana Grill!"

"The Shawafel was a large portion and really delicious - we added lettuce, tomato, and onion. Also ordered Grape Leaves, which comes with one roll packaged in hummus and tahini, very tasty. The 1pc Chicken Kabob was well seasoned and cooked just right, and the small FRIES were a huge portion! Everything was packaged with care too. Excellent quality and really good value. Will order again! :) "
"The Chicken Shawarma Poutine was seriously delicious, whoever thought of combining shawarma and poutine was a genius. I ate about half of it hot, and the rest was still good when I ate the leftovers cold. The Falafel Salad and Lentil Soup were both good cold the next day too--the soup was nice and flavorful, and the lettuce in the salad was fresh and crisp. (In other words, this is apparently not one of those places that just throws salad on the menu as an afterthought.) I don't know how to describe the Sauteed Cabbage, but I liked it and I'll order it again; same with the tzatziki."

"Food is exceptional. The packaging on this most recent order was a bit weak, but food quality for both foul maddamas and falafel was great. Portion size is solid. Veggies taste great too. I plan on ordering again."
"Chicken shawarma plate is great—perfectly spiced rice, chicken just right; too little tzatziki comes with it. Pistachio baklava is excellent. I love their thin pita; it’s the chewy kind. Their baba ganouj recipe isn’t my favorite but that’s a personal preference, I recognize that the ingredients are all very fresh and whoever seared the eggplant got it perfectly smoky."

"Heard about Black Seed thru a Twitter (X) thread asking for best halal in Boston. Can say with confidence that the Chicken Shawarma Plate is fantastic and wins out over other chicken & rice / halal offerings in town - juicy flavorful meat and a healthy portion size.
