I ordered via DoorDash for carry-out Chicken Tibs, sauteed, bite-sized pieces of chicken with onions, garlic, tomatoes, and jalapeños; Kikil, tender, braised lamb with garlic; and a Sambusa, a triangular-shaped pastry filled with lentils, onions, and jalapeños. The cafe is modest in size and furnishings, but it felt like I was walking into my grandmother’s kitchen. I was greeted warmly by the owner, the mouthwatering fragrance of authentic cooking, and Ethiopian music playing in the background. I knew that the food would be delicious as soon as I walked past the first table. The tibs and kikil were served with the best injera I have experienced—it was so light and cushiony and was the perfect vessel for the chicken and lamb (although I also enjoyed the injera by itself). I thoroughly enjoyed the flavorful tibs, served with delicious chickpeas. My sambusa was crispy and savory, and I wish I had ordered another (note: they are on the greasy side). I am already planning on tackling the Veggie Special for my visit, a smorgasbord of split lentils, yellow peas, greens, cabbage, and chickpeas.
