"Biryani was good and had very good succulent pieces. The butter chicken I would say was ok, but it was missing something which I'm finding difficult to point out, and the one main think I would like to point out is the tandoori charcoal flavour was way too overpowering as I could taste the burned flavour a bit too much. I understand that the chicken pieces are cooked first in a tandoor and then added to the curry base. But a burnt flavour was predominant, at least in the batch that was delivered to me. However I was very happy for the fact that you did not use any colouring agents like other restaurants. Reducing the burnt flavour, using the sweetness from the butter and tomatoes(may be a pinch of sugar if required to balance the sourness) and a little green chilli tempering (for a Delhi Dhaaba style butter chicken) would do the trick. Not disappointed, but there's room for improvement. May be it was just yesterday's batch that had an issue and you may already be following the traditional recipe. "

Firstly, let's address the elephant in the room: the price. For the minuscule portions they provide, the prices are nothing short of extortionate. It's as if they believe they can charge a premium simply for slapping the word "Malabar" on their menu. Newsflash: a fancy name does not equate to quality. Now, onto the size. If you're expecting a hearty meal that will leave you feeling satisfied, look elsewhere. Malabar's portions are laughably small, barely enough to constitute a snack, let alone a meal. It's as if they're trying to pass off appetizers as main courses. And don't even get me started on the taste—or lack thereof. The curries are bland, devoid of any depth or complexity of flavor. It's as if they've never heard of spices or seasoning. And the paratha? Dry, rubbery, and utterly forgettable. I've had more flavorful cardboard. I'm not sure it was safe to eat. The Chicken dish was dry, and the garlic naan, that from the old restaurant you could ring out like a dish-cloth and butter and garlic would drip out, was here dry and tasteless. It seems to be a disaster now, and I recommend you avoid. The local North Indian in Crown St, just around the corner, which will give you a tasty two-choice with rice for sub $17, is far superior. Maybe it's the times, I dunno. But there's no reason I can see to willing spend money here. Better options all over in this part of Redfern, now Wunderlich Lane is open."
