"We've left several reviews before, but feel the need to leave another one because this place is so great and anyone who likes this type of food should know, love it, and support it like we do!
Will first start with the staff - they have such a great team of employees. They get orders right 99% of the time. This says a LOT about them and the mgmt that trained them. Really can't say that about many places in LA. Order accuracy is super consistent, even down to the small things like the # of sauces you want, or special modifications like "no pickles". The little things matter! Plus, if you call them about an order, to update/modify etc. they are always so nice and helpful on the phone, not rude LA jerks. No bad attitudes! It's a breath of fresh air.
The food - is AMAZING! Super high quality across the board. There really is no bad dish on their menu, and the ingredients are TOP NOTCH. (I hope someone there is reading this cuz plz guys, dont ever change anything!) The burgers are obviously great, but other items we repeat order all the time are:
the All-Natural Beef Chili - Cup , which is hands down some of the best chili in the country (we travel a lot). All beef, no beans (thank you for that counter! not everyone likes their chili riddled with beans wasting space on what could be the excellent quality BEEF and sauce!) with such a great taste, and a slight kick. Its not "bold", its just super tasty, and even some little pieces of tomato so u know they didn't just use some pre-made paste. 10/10
Then the Chicken Tenders - also 10/10! Totally white meat ckn breast tenderloins, no particlized weird chicken, with weird fatty parts or purple pieces, which we call mystery meat in our household lol. Plus, the southern style buttermilk peppered breading is so good. Not too thick, not too thin. Just PERFECT.
The Fried Onion Strings are divine! Ratio of onion to breading is perfect. And dipped in the sauces just takes it up an extra notch because all their sauces are amazing too! The Side Shoestring Fries are awesome. They're just how they say, shoestring, so they are very thin, but they reheat well in a toaster oven so have no fear ordering it for takeout, cuz even if it arrives cold, you can totally resurrect them. Even a frying pan works. Just no micro!
And although we didn't order any on this round, the shakes are to die for. So so good.
So there you have it. A detailed review from one of CB's longest time, biggest fans. We supported them before the pandemic, even more so DURING the pandemic (thanks for being there for us isolated at home, fam!) and of course after the pandemic and for years to come. This meal felt more like $25 not $36. My other Jamaican spot that had a really good-sized snapper dinners for $34 (and their fish was really good) stopped serving fish altogether (maybe due to cost or supply chain issues?), but I had a hankering for escoveitch (and felt too lazy to make my own) so I decided to try HM's again. The peas and rice was good as always (and there was a lot of it), and the fish was cooked well but just ok flavor wise tho the pickle was tasty and worked when eaten together of course. But overall, in comparison, not a completely satisfying meal for me personally for the price once you factor in delivery and tip ($52). It would be nice if they could find creative ways to be a little more generous with the fish if possible. But still, I love their food. "
"I love me some Escoveitched Fish and this was one good. I do like a little more vinegary flavor in the pickle but it was tasty. And for the price, the red snapper was smaller than expected and compared to the fish I get at this other spot that charges $2 less. But still, I overall truly enjoyed this meal. What I mostly appreciate about this spot is the added Jamaican dishes I rarely see on other menus here in LA. I got the Ground Food (provisions) to go with the fish (boiled green banana, yuca, and dumplings) which I haven't had on the West Coast (I'm from NYC). It's a nice break from rice n peas or white rice options especially with dishes like salt fish and ackee which is a staple. They also have stew peas with pig tails, breadfruit, jerk pork, and the bean soup so I definitely plan to order those next time. I miss those foods/flavors for sure. "
