"EXCELLENT French Onion Soup from Outback once again - the one thing I'm guaranteed to be able to eat while fighting multiple gut-related health issues, a total lifesaver for me. The catfish is the best I've ever had. Period. Perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside, flaky and tender on the inside. The fried chicken is absolute perfection, golden, crunchy, juicy, and everything fried chicken is supposed to be.
And every single side deserves its own standing ovation. The collard greens, black-eyed peas, and red beans and rice are all incredible. These aren't filler sides, they're dishes you could make an entire meal out of.
Then there are the fried green tomatoes. Bar none, the best I've ever had. Anywhere.
Every bite of this meal was so good that somewhere between the catfish and the collards, a word flew out of my mouth that would have made my grandmother raise an eyebrow.
The portions are generous, the flavors are authentic, and the entire experience reminded me what soul food is supposed to taste like.
If you've been searching for genuine soul food in San Diego County, your search is over.
