Food & Drink Writer
Kash Feng named his SOMA restaurant Okane, which means money or gold in Japanese, and his highly successful restaurant has clearly gotten the memo. Online reviewers rave about the fresh ingredients, presentation, and flavor profiles that he and omakase-trained chef Shin Aoki bring to every meal. Okane is izakaya style, modeled after casual taverns and pubs in Japan that serve small plates and drinks. Think burdock root, paper-thin slices of daikon radish, elegant sushi, seared mackerel, ribeye steaks, rolls, sashimi, and nigiri — all ready to be washed down with a cold drink of choice. Order the snow crab sunomono to share, then move on to your sushi of choice. We recommend the Akihabara roll, with salmon and avocado and topped with unagi, and the Okane combo box, a California roll and eight pieces of nigiri selected by the chef.
