I came to visit Oakland for a work trip, and during my stay I found myself coming back to Shooting Star Cafe well over four times in a two day period. Each time I got something different, and every item was delicious, refreshing, and made me want to keep coming back. Shredded Pork Pan Fried Noodle / 肉絲煎麵arrived with pan noodles on separate container. Shredded pork could also be great as a soup dish! Combination Meat Chow Mein / 雜錦炒麵was ok nothing special and almost lacked that wholesome flavor for authentic chinese food. Fried Prawns / 炸蝦was cooked perfectly and tasted great! Popcorn Chicken / 鹽酥雞 was seasoned well! Beef Chow Fun / 乾炒牛河 was surprisingly very good with good flavors. Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings / 椒鹽雞中翼 were ok and our least favorite, very oily and arrived soggy. "

"We are REALLY lucky to have Piedmont Cafe. The affordable greasy spoon diner is a dying breed anyway, but this place? I've been coming here for a decade and when I tell you I can rely on my breakfast being cooked perfectly every single time, I mean, CLOCKWORK. Honestly, if they were open late at night a few nights a week or even all week? So like, open 7 or 8am to 2 or 3pm (sorry, can't remember their actual hours right now) and then again, say, 8pm til midnight Fri-Sun. And if they had a few booths and a jukebox, but kept it alcohol-free, this would be the perfect place. I also think they would benefit heavily from utilizing a space out front for a table or two outside if at any way possible; I know the location makes it tough but it's definitely been done up and down the street in different spots. Ever since Gaylord's closed there's a gap that needs filled for a place to study and have breakfast late that isn't Denny's. Anyway, if it ain't broke don't fix it, but just some ideas for them to consider, to keep them thriving so they stay viable and with us forever! "

I have tried many of their items but the two I always come back to are the Chongqing style chili chicken (boneless) and the Chicken wings withsalted egg yoke. Both have amazing flavor. The Chongqing style chili chicken is just spicy enough, but not too spicy to not be appetizing when you're not in the mood for spicy. "The meat over cooked and was dry, the rice was under cooked and hard, and none of it had any flavor.
Also, they claim they’re giving you two orders for the price of one, on this DoorDash deal, but all they actually did was take one normal size order and split it into two containers.
And then the top it all off, I asked for utensils, one soy sauce, and one chili sauce, and they did not provide any of that. Since I had them delivered this food to me at work, and I’m not at home, I don’t have any of my own utensils to eat my food. So I had a lovely inconvenience of having to drive to 7-Eleven to obtain a spoon.
Based on this order and their lack of customer service/attention to detail, I will never order from here again.
