"I had a taste for a good piece of delicious chocolate cake. I had to qualify it with "good" and "delicious" because there's a lot of mediocre cakes out there. I'm a little bit of a dessert snob, not because I like "fancy" desserts per se, but I like good quality, fresh from scratch ingredients that taste like grandma's flavorful homemade desserts.
Anyhoo, I found SusieCakes on DD and decided to try the 2 Specialty Cake Slices --- the Chocolate cake and Tropical Coconut.
First, I liked the way the cakes were boxed. The slices are big and look exactly like the pictures, and were boxed individually in cute small cake boxes. No plastic containers and no icing stuck to the side! And, they fit perfectly in the paper shopping bags they came in. So perfect packaging.
The Chocolate cake was exactly what I was looking for. Really tasty chocolate flavor with the right level of sweetness (not cloyingly sweet). Cake was moist, the icing was just right. It was on point!
The Tropical Coconut was delicious too. I did find the icing a tad sweet, particularly because there's pineapple in it (hence the "tropical" part), which was a pleasant surprise, but the pineapple is also sweet so together with the icing, it was a little much for my personal palate. But again, it was still delicious and I will eat it! The cake was moist too and a nice flavor. You can tell they use quality ingredients in their cakes.
I will definitely be ordering from them again! Next will be the red velvet!
