"I would not recommend this place for value or comforting flavor. I got the 2 Tacos Meal which was $16. That's $16 for two tacos and some beans and rice. It's extra to pick meat for the 2 Tacos Meal, so I tried the frijolitos negros y mushrooms al pastor. The frijolitos were OK, nothing special but nothing bad. The mushrooms seemed to be whole canned mushroom slices marinated with some kind of slimy onion slices. The rice was also weird. I liked the whole peas and carrot cubes, but the rice had a strong Worcestershire flavor, not something I would've expected. Worse, it was served in a pre-portioned plastic tray with small wells for the rice and beans, which means you get less than the customary 4 oz. side portion of each. I would not pickup or order from this place again, especially with all the better options in the area."

"As someone originally from San Diego, I’ve had my fair share of amazing Mexican food, and finding something that compares to the vibrant food culture back home has always been a challenge. That is, until I discovered Taqueria La Marqueza in Ypsilanti, Michigan. This place is, hands down, the best Mexican food in town—and it’s not even close.
The recent renovations have transformed the space into a more comfortable and spacious dining experience, with additional seating available, but it still retains the cozy, authentic vibe that makes it feel like you’re stepping into a local taqueria in Mexico.
If you're a fan of crispy, flavorful tacos, you absolutely must try their Tacos Dorados. These rolled tacos are out of this world—crispy, packed with tender filling, and topped with just the right amount of fresh ingredients and salsas. It's a dish that immediately takes you back to the best taquerias in California.
The Carne Asada Quesadilla is another standout. The meat is perfectly seasoned and grilled, and the cheese is gooey, melty, and indulgent—every bite is packed with flavor. The quesadilla itself is a thing of beauty: not too greasy, just the right amount of crispy, and filled with the perfect balance of ingredients.
What really sets Taqueria La Marqueza apart is the authenticity. Every dish feels like it’s made with care, using quality ingredients and traditional methods that you can taste in every bite. Whether you’re enjoying tacos, quesadillas, or one of their other delicious offerings, you can be sure you're getting the real deal.
The staff is always friendly, and while the restaurant is small, the recently expanded seating area means it’s much more comfortable for dining in. The food is reasonably priced for the quality, and the portions are generous.
If you’re in Ypsilanti and craving authentic Mexican food, Taqueria La Marqueza is a must-visit. It’s not just the best in town—it’s a slice of true Mexican flavor that rivals anything you’d find in Southern California. I can’t recommend it enough!"
"I ordered the torta de asada, an 8-ounce guacamole, and a chicken tamale.
Chicken Tamale: The tamale was a bit dry on the outside, but it was well-salted. I wish it had a little more of a kick because the masa was really the only flavor that came through. The chicken could have used more seasoning or spice to balance everything out.
Guacamole: Unfortunately, the guacamole was disappointing. It was very watery and had a consistency closer to pico de gallo mixed with avocado salsa than traditional guacamole. For the price, you’re probably better off buying premade guacamole from the grocery store.
Torta de Asada: This was easily the highlight of my order! The torta was really good and tasted much closer to authentic Mexican flavors. One thing I’ve noticed at Mexican restaurants farther north is the tendency to incorporate Tex-Mex-style seasonings, so I appreciated that this torta didn’t have that flavor profile. The meat was flavorful, and the torta wasn’t pellejuda (tough or chewy), which was a plus. I was surprised, though, that the salsa wasn’t included. Most taquerias it's normal to provide it with your order, which I thought was the case, but the additional charge is indeed if you want salsa, which I found interesting.
Overall: If you’re craving a good torta, I’d definitely recommend giving this place a try. The torta alone would bring me back, but I’d skip the guacamole next time. The tamale was okay, so if you're really craving it and don't like spice, I'd also recommend!"
