"Carl's Jr food in general has been falling in quality for years. I worked at a Carl's Jr restaurant in Ventura in the early 1980s, and the food was excellent at that time, but the company was still owned by the Karcher family, so that would probably be one reason why the food was superior. These days the buns are rather tasteless, and tend to absorb the sauces and flatten out. The lettuce lacks texture, and is better suited for floral arrangements than hamburgers.
