"This was my first time trying Smalls, and to be honest, I figured it would just be "another basic burger joint". Instead, I was pleasantly surprised. Their fries arrived still hot and crispy - even after traveling across town. And the portion was very generous. I'd equate it to a large waffle fries from a certain chicken sandwich place... They had good flavor and were tasty on their own. Their queso has a very, very subtle kick to it that worked well with the fries also.
Now, for the featured item: the burgers. I ordered a pair of the regular burgers and one of the bbq bacon jalapeño burgers (no bbq for me). And I was impressed - the jalapeños were flavorful without being too spicy, so you actually got the flavor of the pepper as well as a little kick - more than the queso but still very mild. The burger patty itself was moist and flavorful. The bacon was actually a good chewy bite instead of soggy or crumbly. The bun was soft and buttery. You actually get a really good balance of flavors in each bite. I think what I like most though is that it was just enough for a small appetite like mine. Overall impression? I will definitely order again. Their prices are reasonable, the food is actually good and not just passable. And the service is quick. And bonus - they actually look at the order and get the details right - something far too many places manage to flub up."

"I've been trying to find menudo I like in modern Wichita after a few recommendations turning out badly, and I might've finally found a stalwart (on a Tuesday, no less!). This is 32 ounces of hominy-free red Menudo with a nice variety of tripe and a clean-tasting broth. It comes with your choice of bread or tortillas. I opted for bread tonight and was a little disappointed when I saw that it was just lightly toasted slices of French bread, but it held up well as an accompaniment. It also came with a baggie of oregano, diced onion, cilantro, and half a lime to garnish and customize, but there was no salsa or chiles included to spice it up further. I did add salt to taste, got heavy handed with the accoutrements the way I always do, and really enjoyed it. I'll definitely be ordering it again.
I also tried the Enchladas Michoacanas since I've taken some bad gambles on menudo. Having eaten (and cooked) countless plates of enchiladas michoacanas, I can attest to the slight variability between regions of the state and households, but again was quite pleasantly surprised and another craving was satisfied. If you're unfamiliar with the style, they're made by frying corn tortillas in a flavorful but mild guajillo chile salsa, then filled with cheese and served topped with potatoes and carrots, raw onions and lettuce, crema or sour cream, and sometimes additional cheese. This was a generous portion of four enchiladas, bistec a la milanesa, carrots, potatoes, a side of rice, and a salad of iceberg, tomato, and onion atop sour cream, with a few pickled escabeche vegetables. Also something I'll be reordering.
Next time I'll probably give the pollo con tajadas a try and see how it stacks up against the home cooking I've had before. Not many places in Wichita offer Honduran cuisine, so that's exciting to see on the menu!"
