"The platters were sooo good and seasoned to perfection!!! Nice portons. The Stewed chicken special and the Curried Chicken Roti the flavor is on point, hands down 5 stars in regard to flavor. The only negative issue (but not so negative) I would have to say wouldbe that I would have preferred chicken pieces in the roti to not have the bones, lol. I was enjoying it so much when I went to bite down, I bit into a large bone. So had to remove the bones. Overall, hands down a must try. I will be ordering again. They were sold out of the Pound Cake but did offer me a coconut as replacement. The coconut cake is pretty good also."
"This was my first time ordering from Island Spot and to be honest I was scared. It's the fourth Caribbean restaurant I've tried and I was worried because of past experiences.
The way the carefully wapped the food was impressive. I have not seen that. The mixed steamed veggies were not soggy but crunchy and flavorful. The Medium Curried Chicken was a nice portionfor the price and very good. The rice and peas was fresh and wasn't dry or soggy, just right.
Although they delivered quicker than the estimated 30 mins, the food was a bit cold. I was also unable to choose between white rice or rice and peas, which I found odd. "

"I usually don't complain but I ordered here before and it wasn't that bad but today the collard greens were very mushy and tasteless..I ordered a medium for $17 and I got it in a small platter (foil container) 2 plantains, 4 small pieces of chicken the curry sauce was tasteless and watery and my rice was undercooked.. very disappointing. sorry"

"Food was great! All of the food came fresh. There was plenty of jerk sauce on the chicken and large portions. The Macaroni and Cheese was good but lacked some flavor and was partly dry. The Jerk Chicken itself made it all great. I would definitely recommend this place "
"The brown stew chicken was dry and bland and there was a platter full of rice and 3 small pieces of chicken mostly bone.
The jerk chicken orders both were wrong because they had bbq sauce on both orders and I have a child with sensory sensitivity so they can't eat sauce. The bbq sauce was all over the salad, rice, and chicken. The issue is I requested no sauce and it's an option that was provided to not have sauce."

"This place is as beautiful and the food is amazing! The chicken was so juicy and tasty. Plantains were fresh, perfectly salted, and crisp. I wish the rasta pasta was a little less dry. Overall, amazing and pretty plating, I didn't even wanted to ruin the presentation. "
"The Jerk Chicken had great flavor and a nice smoky char, but it was on the dry side, and chopping it up left a lot of small, tough, bony pieces. If it weren't for how many bony pieces I received, I'd say this was a good portion for the price.
The rice and peas was a real letdown. It tasted completely unseasoned, and I unfortunately got stuck with clumps from the bottom of the pot that were dry, mushy, and devoid of any coconut or herbal flavor. The house jerk sauce had a decent tang and helped rescue the dry chicken, but overall, it missed the mark.
Would I order again? Maybe, but there are better places for jerk chicken so not anytime soon"

"The curry goat roti for $24.49 was not worth the price!! The meal was with only 4 small pieces of meat that had a lot of chipped bones in the gravy, plus there was a lot of potatoes that I didn't care for. It also came with a small scoop of pumpkin and channa.. considering how inexpensive pumpkin and channa is the serving size could have been better. Definitely a 2 out of 10 rating!!!"

"Food is exceptional here! Always fresh, always flavorful and always delicious. My favorite on their menu is the fried turkey (well done) with brown rice and beans. Do not hesitate to give them a try! Also, if you need certain accommodations with your order, just give them a call directly after; to submit your request. This is a "Chef's Kiss" restaurant."

"First time trying Violets! The oxtail taste great! I hate when restaurants make it too salty, and this restaurant does NOT do that! They are flavorful, and they have that little sweetness to it that I like! Rice and peas were flavorful and fluffy, and the cabbage was great! the portions are also fair! They weren't skimpy on the oxtail Thank goodness!"
"They gave me oxtail gravy on my rice and peas without me having to put it on the notes for them to do so. I was happy. They did really good. I just wished they gave away more Jerk Chicken tho cuz two wasn't enough but overall, it was real good"

"These are the good old school oxtails with the sticky gravy, not to mention the rice is already moist to the point you can eat it without extra gravy! Yummy!"
"I am working my way through the menu and everything I have tried so far is very flavorful. The portions are substantial and the prices are better than the competitors.
The barbecue chicken has more of a bar-b-fried vibe, which makes it even better in my opinion."

No me esperaba un postre así: suave, cremoso, con ese toque casero que te transporta."
"The food arrived cold. The basmati rice was unexpected and a bit hard for some reason. Perhaps it was undercooked? The pork was shredded super thin and did not taste good. The order was piled with a ton of thick sliced raw red onion which did not add anything favorable to the dish. The black beans were also bad. Will not be ordering from here again."

"They hooked it up fr I expected a small platter but was able to split between two people its like thanksgiving again I did add extra seasonings but it didnt need any the mac ain't your typical put together Mac this that good black Mac as for the jerk chicken they add onions to garnish the dish but honestly id opt out for those, also the blue berry muffin slaps definitely will order again lookin foward to trying the other deserts and definitely that brisket maybe in person next time for the full experience!"
"Hands down love this place for their Jerk Chicken Platter. The sides are nothing too exciting. Like the Mac and cheese are okay, and potato fries/lemon pepper fries are soggy whenever it gets to me. Probably because of their container. But the Jerk chicken. Hands down top tier. Ordered twice wasn't a fluke. I will order in the future."

"As a Jacan, Trinis make the best roti period. Glad this restaurant came across my feed. Best roti in this side of town."
"I was so excited to see a TT cafe nearby I just had to try it.
Staring with the Doubles , the pepper had a very spiced mustardy taste, which I loved. I hate when something is just hot for nothing, it was both hot and flavorful. The barra was a little bigger than I'm used to but as a result one was enough. Very pleasant, 8/10.
The bake and Saltfish stole the show honestly. It was still so very hot when it arrived, the bake was quite fresh as well as the saltfish. Pleasantly seasoned. This is going to be my go to. 11/10 please don't ever change this!
The Buss Up was nice, standard. I loved it. Going to go great with my meal tonight.
Lastly the Aloo Pie could've been better. I would've liked to try it without the extra sauces, as the flavors overwhelmed the pie.
I wish the Currant Rolls were in stock, I crave them so bad. Next time though, as I'll surely be ordering again. Thank you to the staff!"

"The first time I stepped into this restaurant I felt I was at the right place to eat. First of all the atmosphere was welcoming, with a clean and fresh look of the dining area. Of course this is what makes you want to stay and have your meal. when I moved towards the food line. The amazing display of options took my breathe away. So, sometime later after placing my order of oxtail I glanced over and saw the server serving soup. I ordered a cup, omgoodness . if you want the real Jamaican cowfoot soup check this place out. It's Mackariba Kitchen the place for your any meal stop. Listen people keep it moving until you reach Mackariba Kitchen."
"I ordered Stew peas They did not have any in stock and when I got to the store, they offered me oxtail at the same cost. Afterwards I got a notification from DoorDash that I was charging additional $5/$7. That is deceptive. I will not be ordering from them again."

"The Fried Salmon was very flavorful and delicious. I have never tried salmon this way and was delightfully impressed. The portions of salmon, yams and collards were enough for two or can have it the next day as leftovers for one. The Shrimp was very good, not hard fried as some other places do.
My compliments to the chef. Will definitely order again."
"Absolutely love their food they never miss a beat with the Mac and cheese ! (Best Mac Period) the portion is always great this time banana pudding wasn't too good like always but they're still my favorite place "

"Tasty & still hot on arrival. Great portion size for the price, the rice & beans are also delicious. Maduros / Fried Sweet Plantains are great & don't taste like they're fried in old oil. Same for the Tostones / Fried Green Plantains. I also ordered a large container of their mojo sauce bc it's delish. Everything has been great, I ordered the Pernil Asado twice now, both times great."
"Once again ON POINT!!!! Great service, I put in a request to have the Pernil Asado with white rice instead of yellow and they actually did it without any issues. This Burrito Bowl w Beef is 💣 💣 💣. "Not gonna lie, I forgot to take pics before eating and I started demolishing it immediately. The Mofongo is SO good, it's a good sized portion, not too small like some places give. It's also seasoned very well unlike other places that give you bland ones. The steak was very good, the Alcapurria de guineo is as close to what my mom's is as I can find, so it's amazing. The star of the show was definitely the Pastelillo de Guava (Guava Empanada) because I'm Cuban and that's what I was raised on and they do it well! My husband is raving over his food, the masitas de puerco (carne Carne Frita) are soooo good he says. I would absolutely order here again, in fact my husband says he's ordering it on his cheat day next week 🤣"

"I'm here from a different state , whenever I go to another state. I always make it my business to taste Haitian food. Magela's your tomtom gumbo is delicious, very flavorful, 10/10 . Next time I'm in town, I will definitely buy it again. The goat meat are way too big for me and I did not get any pikliz which makes it hard for me to eat the goat because it's not spicy. The same for the pig ears. The plantain is not fried to perfection. They are big and not crispy but tasty. If you had sent me one little pikliz my taste buds would have been happier. I will definitely recommend Magela's to my friends and families. By the way I saw that the pikliz was $2+ but I thought that was for extra, I don't know any Haitian restaurant that serves food without pikliz. I will make sure to add pikliz next time. The Akra was not too flavorful but eatable."
"Been craving Haitian food for a while, and I’m so glad I found this spot in East Orange, NJ. The food is fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Portions are generous, more than enough and the prices are very reasonable. This was my second order, and it’s officially my go-to spot whenever I’m in town."
