"This is a decent place for Indian take out. The portions are great. My Chicken Tikka Masala had a good portion of chicken cubes. However, I think it needs some more flavor/spices. I did choose the mild so maybe the higher spice levels will have more flavor. The Mango lassi wasn't too sweet and it was also a good size. The Garlic Naan was great, the bread was thick rather than a thin, crunchy texture.

"The Kothu Parotta and the Masala Dosa were absolutely delicious- they're always our go to orders when are at Amma's/get takeout from them . Flavorful and filling. The Masala Dosa is definitely better served at the restaurant because the filling is kept separate from the dosa and after delivery time, the dosa is not as warm. Still, flavors are great. The Rasamalai was tasty but portions were small (only 3 pieces) and overpriced, texture of the cheese was denser than I've had at other places but still great. The Tamarind Fish curry (Meen Kulambu) was sweet, nice to try but not necessarily something I would order again. Overall I love Amma's- my favorite Indian spot in Philly. "

Both of the ice creams were severely frost burned, with hard ice covering the containers. When I got the lids off, the ice cream looked old, frost burned and like it had previously melted and was refrozen. It was just all so sad in the end..."

"I’ve been coming to Penang for years and used to be a frequent customer for both dine-in and takeout. It was always one of my favorite local restaurants, which makes it especially disappointing to say that my last two experiences (including today’s) have convinced me that the quality of both the food and service has declined significantly. Whether it’s due to new ownership, poor management, or a lack of staff training, something has clearly changed.
I placed a takeout order for 9 items and was quoted an estimated pickup time of 1 hour. That’s an unusually long wait, especially on a Tuesday at 4pm when the restaurant was nearly empty. When I arrived, there were only three occupied tables, making the wait even harder to understand.
The pickup experience was equally disappointing. A server pointed me toward the front counter, but no one was there. I stood waiting for nearly 5 minutes before someone finally came over, even though my food had already been packed and was sitting behind the counter.
The packaging showed a complete lack of care. While the individual containers were fine, the entire order was crammed into a single brown paper bag filled to the top, with containers sticking up near the handles. There was no way the bag could be carried safely without risking it tearing. I politely asked if they could split the order into two bags. Instead of helping, the employee gave me a dirty look, handed me an empty second bag after I had already paid, and told me to repack it myself. That should never be the customer’s responsibility. It should have been packaged properly from the start.
Unfortunately, the food has declined as well. The roti canai, which used to be one of my favorites, was a huge disappointment. The roti itself was rubbery, and the curry dipping sauce was so watered down that it lacked the rich flavor it was once known for. Other dishes also seemed noticeably smaller while prices have continued to increase. I understand inflation affects restaurants, but this felt more like cutting corners than simply adjusting prices.
What disappoints me most is that Penang used to stand out for both its food and hospitality. Now the customer service feels indifferent, the attention to detail is gone, and the food no longer justifies the prices.
I rarely leave negative reviews, but after two consistently poor experiences, I can no longer recommend this restaurant. It’s unfortunate to see a place that was once so reliable decline to this extent."

"I’ve tried quite a few Indian restaurants, and Curry Leaf Indian and Nepali Cuisine is the only one that keeps bringing me back. In fact, this is the second time I’ve ordered the exact same combination: chicken biryani, vegetable samosas, raita, and gulab jamun.
The chicken biryani is excellent. What makes it stand out are the cashews and golden raisins mixed throughout the rice. They add a wonderful balance of textures and flavors—crunchy, sweet, savory, and aromatic—making the dish feel more complex and satisfying than your typical biryani.
The vegetable samosas are equally impressive. The pastry is fried to perfection: golden, crisp, and wonderfully crunchy without feeling greasy. They’re the perfect starter or snack alongside the biryani.
For dessert, the gulab jamun is absolutely delicious. Soft, rich, and soaked in sweet syrup, it’s like biting into a delicate sponge filled with honeyed goodness.
Don’t skip the raita. This cool yogurt-based accompaniment is the perfect complement to the biryani. It balances the spices beautifully and ties together the crunch of the cashews and the sweetness of the raisins, creating a harmonious bite every time.
I also appreciate the value. This order easily lasts me four meals, making it an excellent deal for both quality and quantity.
Curry Leaf has become my go-to spot, and it’s one I’ll continue ordering from again and again. Highly recommended."
