I taught English and did translations for leading Companies -- my first job not associated with a univer- sity. Everything was expensive in Tokyo. My coworkers and I could not afford beef at 900 yen for 200 grams (about half a pound). I did not start making money until I was a full time translator. Having not had beef for 6 months I accompanied my pals to the opening of Wendy's in Shinjuku. I ordered a triple which was an unbelievable mass of beef in Japan for 1250 yen. [Due to the "Lost Decades" it's 1240 yen today]. That triple was like Manna from heaven. First time back in the States, I went to a Wendy's on the Post Road for a double. Heaven. My latest was Wendy's in SEYMOUR across from Klarides Plaza. Still, Heaven. Maybe it's always BEEF HEAVEN at WENDY's. No matter where. It makes me smile."
