Chili oil was not even hot and everything needed seasoning and salt. Not even a fortune cookie to salvage a very disappointing meal. The filling (which that day was a classic beef) was incredibly savory, well-seasoned, and juicy. It wasn't a dry empanada at all; every bite was comforting and delicious. A 10/10 start!
Arroz Chaufa con Carne (Beef Fried Rice)
Next, I tried the Arroz Chaufa con Carne. This is not just any fried rice; it's a masterpiece of Chifa (Peruvian-Chinese fusion) cuisine. The rice had that unmistakable smoky "wok hei" flavor that is so hard to achieve. The pieces of beef were tender and mixed beautifully with the rice, scrambled eggs, and fresh green onions. It was flavorful, satisfying, and perfectly balanced. I could eat an entire plate of this without stopping.
Tallarín a la Huancaína con Lomo Saltado (Huancaína-Style Noodles with Saltado Steak)
Finally, the star of the show: the Tallarín a la Huancaína con Lomo Saltado. What an incredible combination! The pasta was perfectly cooked "al dente" and bathed in a creamy, velvety Huancaína sauce, which had just the right balance of fresh cheese, ají amarillo (yellow chili), and a subtle spicy kick.
But topping that pasta with Lomo Saltado is pure genius. The steak was tender, juicy, and stir-fried to the exact point, with that characteristic smoky flavor, accompanied by red onions and tomatoes that still retained their texture. The combination of the creamy pasta sauce with the savory juices from the lomo saltado was simply divine. It's a hearty dish, packed with flavor, and
absolutely unforgettable.
