"Tried this new "hawaiian" bbq/ramen resto. Ordered anything but. Went with the OG laulau plate. It comes with 2 scoops of rice, mac salad and 2 small laulaus. Hmmm. Im torn. I was just excited about the area just having a new food spot. But what do you expect. It was overall ok, just to satisy the hawaiian craving for a good 15min. Pretty small and hard to unwrap the ti-leaf without throwing out some taro leaves with it. The meat was a bit dry and dont expect any fish in it. Well both of mines didnt have any. I was actually trying to look for some fatty peices as it was just so dry. Mac salad was ok, not mushy but not creamy and very oniony. Also had some cabbage/broccoli under the laulaus. Not necessary. Would try other items next time."

"I am obsessed with Asaka. I just ordered from them a few days ago and was already ready for another round. I think this is some of the best "hole in the wall" sushi spots in the East Bay. My husbands face lit up when he took his first bite of the 38. Sushi Pizza Roll. The fish is very fresh and it has a beautiful presentation. Asaka is definitely our new go to spot. It makes sense that they use the less fresh seafood in their cooked rolls with flavorful sauces- so the lack of freshness is less noticeable.
The rolls were mushy and difficult to eat with chopsticks without them falling apart. Each roll comes with ginger and wasabi packaged with the roll, not in separate containers, so if you don't like either of those flavors, you might have to skip one or two of the pieces from each container.
