"Normally, I'm one to dock points for poor price-to-portion ratio. However, Solare isn't here to stock you on enough leftovers for a couple days -- they understand their place is providing top-notch flavors, and they prove they belong in the upper echelon of Italian establishments in SD by mastery of craft alone. Whether you dive right for the mains or linger over their pastas, it's hard to find fault with the quality of each dish. The portions are just right, the ingredients are fresh, and the depth of knowledge displayed by Solare's chefs yields results that are indeed greater than the sum of their parts. Be prepared to shell out, but you will find the full experience well worth your dime.
All this to say that I enjoyed the Risotto Tartufo e Capesante immensely, and the seasonal Grilled Vegetables (this time: golden and orange carrots, broccolini, Brussels sprouts) have yet to disappoint. Now if I could just convince the chef to throw in a couple extra scallops... which, by the way, were the best I've had since arriving back in town five years ago. Seared brown, and to the right doneness. Magnificent."
"This classic Bolognese dish was unique and delicious. Unusual flavors mixed with classic Italian seasonings and it went well with a great bottle of Pinot noir, not heavy or too rich. I would definitely order it again. We've never had an ordinary or boring meal at Solare's, one of our favorite restaurants. It always delights our senses!"
