The meatballs are more cilantro than meat. The sauce flavor is not good. So basically I got wet bread loaded with sugar and meatballs. I think we are spoiled with authentic food here. I recently had the pleasure of dining at La Cocina in Mobile, Alabama, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. Starting with the beef tacos, I was initially surprised they used ground beef instead of pulled beef or chopped steak. While the ground beef was flavorful, I feel offering alternatives like pulled beef or chopped steak would elevate the dish and provide a more authentic experience.
The salsa was a delightful complement to the meal, bursting with freshness and just the right amount of kick. The ceviche was absolutely stellar—so fresh and flavorful that I can’t say enough good things about it. It truly left a lasting impression.
The chicken enchiladas, while delicious, were a bit on the dry side, likely due to the time of day I ordered them. A quick remedy with a bit of salsa, and they were back to their delightful self. The chips served were also fantastic—crisp and perfectly seasoned.
Overall, I was incredibly impressed with La Cocina, especially considering I dined there at 4 o’clock on a Monday. Coming from San Francisco, where I enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine almost daily, I can confidently say that La Cocina holds its own. If you’re in Mobile and craving Mexican food, this spot is a must-visit! A pulled beef or chopped steak option for the tacos would make it even better."

"The food was delicious. It's the first time I had them. Everything looks like the pictures so there's no false advertisement. The Jalapeno Holly was good and had a good amount of spice. The Mac and cheese tasted good but the roux looked a little dry. The Chick was tasty as well and had no complaints. The Loaded Potato Soup tasted good but felt like it was too salty for me.
The Pumpkin Cheesecake Slice was great.

"This is one of my daughter’s and my favorite Mexican restaurants, we’ve ordered here more times than I can count! This was my first time trying the Quesabirria, and it was absolutely spot on. I didn’t think I could possibly love anything more than the Birria tacos (which are always delicious), but this may have topped them. My daughter ordered her usual Lamb Tacos, her favorite in town, and loved them as always. The chips and salsa were fresh and delicious, so good I had to stop myself from eating too many just to save room for the main course. Portion sizes are just right in my opinion. The only thing I’d suggest, as others have mentioned, is offering rice and beans with the Quesabirria.

We were disappointed when the St. Elmo location closed, and then glad that a new restaurant was set up on Dawes Road just north of Cottage Hill Road.
