It is quite firm, if you touch it is does not lose shape easily also... I do not cringe and can drink my soda without thoughts of disgust... guess what else?! The straw still sitting in liquid stays firm for A LONG TIME! I can not finish this very larger size soda, put it in my frig along with the paper straw, take my cup out the following day, and the straw is still as if I had just opened it new! It takes WELL over a day before the straw starts to break down."
