Then I had the Vanilla Crunch Cheesecake the next day, still equally great quality but obviously more calm on the flavor side than the white chocolate raspberry. I had 8 pieces of spinach, 4 slices of tomato, 6 cucumber slices, and enough tuna for a 6 inch sub, at best. Seriously, it was 85% shredded iceberg lettuce. This may not be an isolated issue with this store and is perhaps the way all stores make the tuna bowl. It was delicious until I had nothing left but iceberg lettuce. I’m a New York native, so I’ve had plenty of experiences eating phenomenal oxtails over the years. These were easily some of the best I’ve ever had. Tender, flavorful, and clearly made with care.
My only small qualm was the mac and cheese. It had a bit too much MSG for my taste. I’m sensitive to MSG, so the flavor came through pretty strong for me. I ended up pairing it with the yams to balance it out and that actually worked really well.
Now the cornbread deserves its own moment. It was delicious and honestly reminded me of my mother’s cornbread. I was literally sitting in my bed eating it before I fell asleep lol.
I also want to say thank you for bringing authentic soul food to this area. I live in Alamance County and there is truly no soul food to be found here. There’s plenty of southern style food, but real soul food is almost nonexistent.
