This was my 1st time eating here and they definitely did not disappoint.Nice size portions, so flavorful, oxtails were so tender and juicy ,everything was seasoned to perfection, plantains we're actually sweet just the way I like them and the lady who answered the phone was very polite .I will be ordering again "
"Best Curry Chicken roti, roti is NEVER dry, comes wrapped in parchment paper and the Curry Chicken is juicy, well seasoned too. Just wish they sold the roti on its own. And the Sorell is so refreshing, just like his my family makes it. This place is my go to for when I want yard food but dobt have the time to cook. "

"The platters were sooo good and seasoned to perfection!!! Nice portons. The Stewed chicken special and the Curried Chicken Roti the flavor is on point, hands down 5 stars in regard to flavor. The only negative issue (but not so negative) I would have to say wouldbe that I would have preferred chicken pieces in the roti to not have the bones, lol. I was enjoying it so much when I went to bite down, I bit into a large bone. So had to remove the bones. Overall, hands down a must try. I will be ordering again. They were sold out of the Pound Cake but did offer me a coconut as replacement. The coconut cake is pretty good also."
"This was my first time ordering from Island Spot and to be honest I was scared. It's the fourth Caribbean restaurant I've tried and I was worried because of past experiences.
The way the carefully wapped the food was impressive. I have not seen that. The mixed steamed veggies were not soggy but crunchy and flavorful. The Medium Curried Chicken was a nice portionfor the price and very good. The rice and peas was fresh and wasn't dry or soggy, just right.
Although they delivered quicker than the estimated 30 mins, the food was a bit cold. I was also unable to choose between white rice or rice and peas, which I found odd. "

"The food was very good and very tasty and I will be ordering from this restaurant again however I do think that for a large order and for the price I would like to get more oxtails. But the food came wrapped up nicely and that is good because I know the restaurant cares enough to make sure my order was right. "
"The food was horrible,I ordered a large ,they gave me no mild sauce ,the chicken wasn't fresh,a spoonful of cabbage ,and a ton of dry rice, for 50$ I will never eat from golden Krust again they should be ashamed, they gave me old bananas and tried to pass them off as plaintains ,disgusting ,I'm so angry I paid my good money for garbage !!!!!"

"This place is as beautiful and the food is amazing! The chicken was so juicy and tasty. Plantains were fresh, perfectly salted, and crisp. I wish the rasta pasta was a little less dry. Overall, amazing and pretty plating, I didn't even wanted to ruin the presentation. "
"The Jerk Chicken had great flavor and a nice smoky char, but it was on the dry side, and chopping it up left a lot of small, tough, bony pieces. If it weren't for how many bony pieces I received, I'd say this was a good portion for the price.
The rice and peas was a real letdown. It tasted completely unseasoned, and I unfortunately got stuck with clumps from the bottom of the pot that were dry, mushy, and devoid of any coconut or herbal flavor. The house jerk sauce had a decent tang and helped rescue the dry chicken, but overall, it missed the mark.
Would I order again? Maybe, but there are better places for jerk chicken so not anytime soon"

"I usually don't complain but I ordered here before and it wasn't that bad but today the collard greens were very mushy and tasteless..I ordered a medium for $17 and I got it in a small platter (foil container) 2 plantains, 4 small pieces of chicken the curry sauce was tasteless and watery and my rice was undercooked.. very disappointing. sorry"

"Absolutely loved my Coconut Curry Shrimp. The food was incredibly fresh and tasty. Authentic Trinidadian flavor.... the food melts in your mouth. I will be ordering again.... soon!"
"The curry goat roti for $24.49 was not worth the price!! The meal was with only 4 small pieces of meat that had a lot of chipped bones in the gravy, plus there was a lot of potatoes that I didn't care for. It also came with a small scoop of pumpkin and channa.. considering how inexpensive pumpkin and channa is the serving size could have been better. Definitely a 2 out of 10 rating!!!"

"I have always liked the taste of their food better than any other Jamaican restaurant I've tried in my area:. Only issue is that most times I order, I am missing food. "They're usually excellent with their orders. For some reason their Oxtail Beef tasted like jerk seasoning which is unusual AND on top of it I ordered a large and was literally given only tiny small oxtail with fat. "Food was great! All of the food came fresh. There was plenty of jerk sauce on the chicken and large portions. The Macaroni and Cheese was good but lacked some flavor and was partly dry. The Jerk Chicken itself made it all great. I would definitely recommend this place "
"The brown stew chicken was dry and bland and there was a platter full of rice and 3 small pieces of chicken mostly bone.
The jerk chicken orders both were wrong because they had bbq sauce on both orders and I have a child with sensory sensitivity so they can't eat sauce. The bbq sauce was all over the salad, rice, and chicken. The issue is I requested no sauce and it's an option that was provided to not have sauce."

"As a Jacan, Trinis make the best roti period. Glad this restaurant came across my feed. Best roti in this side of town."
"I was so excited to see a TT cafe nearby I just had to try it.
Staring with the Doubles , the pepper had a very spiced mustardy taste, which I loved. I hate when something is just hot for nothing, it was both hot and flavorful. The barra was a little bigger than I'm used to but as a result one was enough. Very pleasant, 8/10.
The bake and Saltfish stole the show honestly. It was still so very hot when it arrived, the bake was quite fresh as well as the saltfish. Pleasantly seasoned. This is going to be my go to. 11/10 please don't ever change this!
The Buss Up was nice, standard. I loved it. Going to go great with my meal tonight.
Lastly the Aloo Pie could've been better. I would've liked to try it without the extra sauces, as the flavors overwhelmed the pie.
I wish the Currant Rolls were in stock, I crave them so bad. Next time though, as I'll surely be ordering again. Thank you to the staff!"

"First time trying this restaurant. I really wanted stew chicken. The chicken was tender and nice sized pieces for the price. The flavor of the chicken was ok but not wow this is really good. "First time trying Violets! The oxtail taste great! I hate when restaurants make it too salty, and this restaurant does NOT do that! They are flavorful, and they have that little sweetness to it that I like! Rice and peas were flavorful and fluffy, and the cabbage was great! the portions are also fair! They weren't skimpy on the oxtail Thank goodness!"
"They gave me oxtail gravy on my rice and peas without me having to put it on the notes for them to do so. I was happy. They did really good. I just wished they gave away more Jerk Chicken tho cuz two wasn't enough but overall, it was real good"

"Good flavor, perfectly seasoned meatballs and perfectly cooked pasta. The garlic bread was delicious but it doesn't come with it. The price is a bit steep for two meatballs and spaghetti $30.00...but I was in the mood and didn't want to cook. Overall, you do get a good portion and I had leftovers, so I'm pleased."

"delicious Curry Goat and the Pine Tart was awesome!"
"I ordered a small callaloo and saltfish with fried dumplings. The dumplings were very hard and I was not able to chew them, and there was hardly any saltfish. The meal was also very small for the price (see photo). So considering this along with the fact that there was almost no saltfish and the dumplings were inedible, I don't feel I received my money's worth."

"I couldn't even take a picture of the food because the way I demolished it was insane lol . Got the Whiting Combo Sm and Whitting Sandwich along with 2 drinks. The portions? Well worth the money. The fish? Nice and flavorful and freshly crisp . The Mac and cheeseee? It was actually Mac and Cheese thank GOD. The food was 1000/10 and I will be back"
"The Oxtail. Dinner is mid. The yams are from a can and canned yams will always be a negative. The Mac and cheese is ok nothing to write home about. You do receive a healthy portion of oxtail and it's not just bones. Taste wise, they lack flavor and spice. We need an option of extra oxtail gravy. The cornbread is a tad dry but buttery and sweet, however, the dryness could because it's overcooked. "

"I am working my way through the menu and everything I have tried so far is very flavorful. The portions are substantial and the prices are better than the competitors.
The barbecue chicken has more of a bar-b-fried vibe, which makes it even better in my opinion."

"Food is exceptional here! Always fresh, always flavorful and always delicious. My favorite on their menu is the fried turkey (well done) with brown rice and beans. The large comes with potato salad and if I order the small, I just add the potatoe salad as an extra. I order from this restaurant 2x a week and I tell everyone about them.
Do not hesitate to give them a try! Also, if you need certain accommodations with your order, just give them a call directly after; to submit your request. This is a "Chef's Kiss" restaurant."
"First time and the rice and beans were delicious and comforting. The fish was a little salty. Also, this particular order i only received a fish head. I thought i was getting a whole snapper. That should be stated. I do not like fish head, but i ate it. The pate, was a delight. Yummy, flaky. I just ordered 8 more this Am. Thank you"

"I'm here from a different state , whenever I go to another state. I always make it my business to taste Haitian food. Magela's your tomtom gumbo is delicious, very flavorful, 10/10 . Next time I'm in town, I will definitely buy it again. The goat meat are way too big for me and I did not get any pikliz which makes it hard for me to eat the goat because it's not spicy. The same for the pig ears. The plantain is not fried to perfection. They are big and not crispy but tasty. If you had sent me one little pikliz my taste buds would have been happier. I will definitely recommend Magela's to my friends and families. By the way I saw that the pikliz was $2+ but I thought that was for extra, I don't know any Haitian restaurant that serves food without pikliz. I will make sure to add pikliz next time. The Akra was not too flavorful but eatable."
"Been craving Haitian food for a while, and I’m so glad I found this spot in East Orange, NJ. The food is fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Portions are generous, more than enough and the prices are very reasonable. This was my second order, and it’s officially my go-to spot whenever I’m in town."
