The Bacon Cheeseburger is perfect. I love that the bacon is crispy enough but not overdone, so the softness matches the burger. I asked for cheddar cheese and I can taste the sharpness. "Despite being back home for over 20 years, I think this is the first time I've ordered from Route 40 Diner, but it won't be the last.
I was hungry for pot roast and mashed potatoes. Believe it or not, not everyone gets pot roast right, but theirs was very good - had just a nice amount of fat. I ordered my gravy on the side because I like to butter my mashed potatoes first, and they gave me a generous cup of it.
But while I was scrolling thru the menu, the Thursday Special of Cabbage Rolls (Halupki) caught my attention. I figured I could have that for lunch Friday, and I did. I used some of that gravy on my mashed potatoes with that meal. The Halupki was just like Mommy used to make - only I spent no time wrapping & tucking little meat & rice balls in boiled cabbage to earn this meal.
It's nice to get a home-cooked meal delivered when I'm not feeling well. The food was good & filling, and tasted like I could have made it myself. I appreciate the focus on local cuisine."

Let me say this about my new favorite thin pizza: I was partly raised by my Nana whose parents & older siblings immigrated from Italy before she was born. Even my great-aunts who married into the family learned the family recipes, so I grew up eating authentic Italian food, including homemade pizza. This thin crust reminded me of the family pizza I grew up on. Pizza sauce should be thick, generous, and a little sweet. The crust is baked to perfection. "This was the first time I ordered from The River's Edge.
I ordered the Award Winning Cheddar Burger with a side of Fries, Side Pasta, & Smashed Redskin. The latter two were dinner that night & the next day.
I ordered the burger Medium Well. It was Well; it's okay, I normally eat my meat Well, I was just hoping for a little less Well, a little more juicy. The cheddar is good. I like that you can customize, ask for toppings to be removed. I debated asking for no Mustard, because I only wanted a little, but decided to just get it & deal with how much I wanted from there, then add other condiments I wanted at home. I just don't like lots of condiments in general, and there was a lot of it. I just prefer condiments on the side. It's a large burger, seemed like a half pound; the bun was really nice and soft.
I got a whole bag of fries with that burger. I had to put them on a separate plate, there was so much. They were really good, too. This restaurant has a very long list of what looks like excellent sides you can have with your main dish, and even though it may seem like burger & fries is a given, I really did debate if that's what I wanted. It just came down to, they do make a good combination, you can't beat an American classic.
I saved the pasta & smashed potato for dinner. I wish there'd been just a little more marinara for the pasta, I had mostly naked penne. The sauce was okay, and that's really a compliment from me, because I make my sauce homemade the way my Italian Nana taught me. I'm very picky about marinara, so for me to enjoy a restaurant's marinara is very rare. I can probably count on one hand the number of times that's happened in my 60 years. And yes, I probably ate marinara as an infant.
The smashed redskin potato was a nice treat, and I'm glad I got it. I melted some butter on it, and it was heaven. It was perfect consistency.
All in all, a good couple of meals. More marinara, less mustard, and maybe I will order my burger Medium next time.

I've come to believe they make their Honey Sriracha sauce fresh every day, because it's never exactly the same each time I order it, and that's not a bad thing in my opinion. I've actually been to Juniors in Brooklyn, but it's been a while, and I had entire meals there, not just dessert. So I was happy to see a Juniors Red Velvet Layer dessert. The Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso is soooo good! I'll admit, I needed to add a little sweetener, and I substituted mocha powder instead of cinnamon powder, but otherwise it was delicious! I was so sleepy from the heatwave & I work late hours, so this helped to both keep me awake/alert, and quenched my thirst! I still have some left for tomorrow morning.
The pastries are almost always awesome, and today was no exception. Especially the Double Chocolate Brownie - I really needed the caffeine in that chocolate! x2! The pizza was very good. The sauce has a touch of sweetness to it, which I like, the dough is springy, and I got pepperoni, which was slightly crispy, also something I like.
I waited until the next day to try the wings because I ate a lot of pizza the day of the order. You can get 2 sauces for your wings - if you don't keep dipping sauce on hand at home, make sure that one of your sauces is for dipping. I got two different kinds of sweet & hot sauce, both are very good.

"Go to the Belle Vernon location. This location was slow, forgot cheese with my fries (they gave me cold nacho cheese once I told them they forgot it instead of their hot white cheese they give with their fries) they had all my food on the counter for 15 mins while waiting for my pizza which they didn't even start till I walked in (everything was done but pizza wasn't even started) and they had notified me food was ready on app but had to wait 15-20 minutes for my pizza to be done. Service was slow, food is bland, cold, and just not as good. Belle Vernon location is the place to go. I love fat Angelo's but this location was disappointing and a waste of my money."

"Simple Start breakfast was perfect. Eggs cooked as ordered, generous portion of ham and potatoes and toast all very good. Build your own burger was good but I felt it was a little dry and bacon overcooked. All in all food was good but breakfast was fantastic. This definitely is my new bteakfast spot. "I am new to empty plate. My first time ordering the simple start breakfast I was bowled over. Today the ham was more like thin sliced lunch meat. Still all in all it wasn't bad just not as over the top good as previously. The Sam's Special with French toast. French toast was a huge disappointment. If you are going to use Texas toast for French toast you have to do more than slide the bread across the egg mix. Otherwise you get very dry tasteless French toast which was what I received. Thought I found my go to breakfast spot but now not so sure. I will try again to break the tie and see if thumbs up or thumbs down is the verdict for me."
